The Burwell Davis family is the owner of Burwell Farms®. The name pays homage to Burwell Davis, who was awarded the land in 1776 for his service in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. The land given to Davis has been continually farmed by the same family ever since, with subsequent generations cultivating cotton, tobacco, and now Tuber borchii.
Situated in Eastern North Carolina, Burwell Farms® enjoys mild weather and ideal soil conditions for growing decadent Bianchetto truffles. In the summer of 2014, we planted 1,100 inoculated loblolly pine seedlings. After three and a half years of careful cultivation, we harvested our first crop of beautiful truffles available to gourmet kitchens. This first harvest came before anyone ever imagined it, and due to our success in the fields we were able to debut our high quality truffle to the world. Soon, we had another idea... why not sell our trees! Our clear success in growing this truffle opened the opportunity to other people to have success as well. We inoculate Loblolly Pine tree seedlings and offer them to anyone who wants to grow their own Bianchetto truffles!
After several successful growing seasons, we expand our truffle production, planting more truffle-producing pines and cultivating the soil to ensure large high-quality harvests. In the 2020 season, we harvested over 2,400 ounces. By the end of summer 2020, we will have planted more trufflieres, making sure Burwell Farms® is continuing to meet demand for our decadent truffles. We are pleased to provide your restaurant or kitchen with a unique aroma you can’t find anywhere else!
30 chefs across the southeast came to our farm for a tour of Truffiere 1, informational guide, and a great day enjoying truffles!
